Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry in Cannabis Research

Описание: The recent trends in legalization of medicinal and recreational marijuana and cannabinoid products in the US, Canada, and many other countries has highlighted a glaring lack of research into the potential medicinal properties of this highly complex plant. Although there are at least two FDA approved cannabinoid drugs and more in the pipeline, in the US marijuana remains a class I controlled substance. This means that at least from the federal point of view, marijuana has no medicinal purpose. Nonetheless basic and applied cannabis, cannabinoid, and terpenoid research programs are beginning to blossom. As is common in drug discovery and development, mass spectrometry is an integral part of these programs and high resolution accurate mass (HRAM) quadrupole time of flight (QTOF) systems are at the forefront of this work for myriad reasons. This presentation will discuss the use of QTOF mass spectrometry in both the liquid and gas phases in discovery-based workflows and how these systems can be used to solve complex chemical questions.
